Hi all, have been taken off mx for 2 weeks due to high ast liver reading (whatever that means!) Im presuming that as Ive been on mx for over a year now, this wont make a lot of difference to the pain etc?

Must admit, was quite glad as I take mx during the day (split dose) on a Thursday and it was lovely not to go to bed Thursday night feeling very sick (have found that with the leflu this was happening more frequently) and also didnt feel like I had either a hangover or morning sickness all day today (Friday)

Has this happened to anyone else being taken on mx for a while? If so, what are your experiences?

yeap .MTX
Just been off it for 5 weeks .It hangs around for 3 months so they say i feel fine .
i have or had a very high liver but had it twice this year .

It is not good to have a high liver and there are 2 readings which have to be nomal ??

On Tuesday was up hospital seeing my R.A chap whos gone though the monthley bloods
And took me off satin as that interfirs with the liver .
And said my liver is not behaving though i feel fine .

So i went back on MTX this week but on 5mg for 8 weeks then 7half mg from then on with extra monating which i will ring R.A nurse as i don,t always trust
Doctor as he is not so well trained with MTX .gET NURSE to read the test .

mtx toxic so you must look after liver But theres other drugs to try

Hi Heather,

I have had to stop mtx because of high liver enzymes in the past, but after 3 weeks and another blood test was able to go back on it.
It only happened that one time and I have been ok on mtx since then.

Hello Heather.


I was on mtx and I had to stop it on 3 occasions due to my liver having high readings so had
to stop . My liver soon corrected itself though. Unfort for me I had to give up but I am sure
you will be ok in a few weeks.

I have been off MTX for two weeks . I was fine until today and i feel like my shoulder is in a vice.
The tens machine is out again. I have not used it for a long time. It used to help a lot before i went on the MTX and Plaquinel but that has been stopped as well.
Going for blood tests on tues so i hope my white blood cells are ok .If they are i can go back on medication. Its nice to know we are not alone with our problems.I know there are a lot worse than me .
I have been to a golden wedding anniversary today and i have had a few glasses of wine and champagne so that should help me to sleep.

Hi, thanks all for the advice, am going on Tuesday to see the specialist so should get sorted then. Must admit, am a bit stiffer than normal this morning, but probably conincidence, you never know with arthur though do you!

Enjoy the weekend all, Im off Christmas shopping with my lovely son Jack, 19 so los of hot chocolate stops methinks!!

Hi Heather,

I was diagnosed in May this year and prescribed MTX but in Sept my liver reading was high and I received a phone call from the doctor to stop taking it. I stopped for two weeks only and then started retaking it after the next blood test was ok, the rhummy suspects it was down to a tooth infection I had and the high number of painkillers I was taking. Even though I only stopped for two weeks the RA has returned with a vengence and I am still waiting for it to kick in again.

Enjoy your shopping trip with Jack. I also have a son called Jack who is 20 I could never in a million years imagine him wanting to come shopping with me unless I told him I was going to the Armani shop in Bluewater. you lucky thing.

Hi Anne, your post made me think, I was taking painkillers regularly as I fell down the stairs (on my coxis ooowwww) so was taking very regular painkillers, so maybe thats what it was! Must admit, am feeling a bit stiffer today, but maybe thats all in my head!

Had a great trip with my Jack, have to say though, he;s not a browser, he will go and get what he wants and then wants to come home!!!

been on and off it several times. always gone back on it and been ok for a while then the liver readings go off again! MTX never did work for me so that's another issues. most people dont react like me. they are fine on it and as long as the MTX works and the liver function/ other issues can be managed that is fine.

lots of people go on it again and dont have a problem for ages.
